The river Moselle flows through the gentle hilly landscape between Wasserbillig and Toul, where old towpaths have been converted into cycle paths. Enjoy French art de vivre and Luxemburgian sociability both on the guided cycling tours and aboard the familial ship. Wine will accompany you all the way from the Miserland to the Côtes de Toul. This tour along the Moselle in Luxembourg and Lorraine is highly recommended both for expert and novice cyclists. Your starting point is Wasserbillig.

Day 1 Arrival in Wasserbillig, cycle tour approx. 15 km/9 mi
Embarkation from 3 pm, to get into the mood there’ll be a small cycle tour along the Sûre.

Day 2 Wasserbillig - Remich, approx. 35 km/22 mi
Sunny vineyards, romantic wine villages and Roman ruins - the grand duchy displays itself from its most beautiful side.

Day 3 Remich - Thionville, approx. 40 km/25 mi
There are 3 countries on today’s itinerary, where perfect cycle paths accompany the Moselle.

Day 4 Thionville - Metz, approx. 35 km/22 mi
Comfortably, you’ll be approaching the old episcopal city of Metz, seat of the Carolingians and the centre of Lorraine.

Day 5 Metz - Frouard, 25-55 km/16-34 mi
Old towpaths lead toward Pont-à-Mousson, which offers a monastery highly worth visiting, after which you’ll go to Frouard, located at the mouth of the river Meurthe.

Day 6 Frouard - Nancy - Liverdun, approx. 30 km/19 mi
There will be ample time to explore Nancy, after which you’ll cycle to the old fortress town of Liverdun, famous for its Madeleines.

Day 7 Liverdun - Toul, approx. 17 km/7 mi and departure
The route will lead you onwards to the Moselle’s most westerly point - Toul - with its beautiful Cathedral. Disembarkation will commence in the afternoon, after which you will make your way home under your own steam. We highly recommend staying for an extra night in Nancy, Luxembourg City or Trier.

The booking process

The Tour


  • Parking
    Wasserbillig does no longer offer parking. We recommend using the guarded car park at Luxembourg airport (approx. 40-60 EUR / week). Take the bus (16 and 29, takes approx. 20 minutes, runs every 30 minutes) to the main station, from where you can get a train (runs approx. every hour, takes 30 minutes) to Wasserbillig.
    Alternatively, take the Airport-Schiffslände shuttle bus, departs Saturdays at 1 pm, 55 EUR per person (return, please note this when making your booking, not possible if you’re travelling with your own bike).

  • Arrival by train:
    Wasserbillig train station, approx. 500 m to the hythe

  • Arrival by plane:
    Airport Luxembourg, by bus to the central station (16 and 29, approx. every half hour, duration approx. 20 min) and further by train to Wasserbillig (approx. every hour, duration approx. 30 min).

Return transfer:

  • Toul - Luxembourg Aiport
    Under your own steam by train, change in Nancy, Metz/Thionville and at Luxembourg main station Quai 103 (buses 16 and 29). This connection operates approx. once per hour and takes approx 3.5 hours.
    We highly recommend an extra night in Nancy or Luxembourg City.

During your tour, we are available between 8 am and 8 pm, 7 days a week. We are happy to help with any kind of problems you might be having. You will find this emergency number in your travel documents.

As is the case with all boat trips, changes in travel itineraries due to the weather, the rivers’ water levels or technical issues can be undertaken at any time.
