If you don’t feel like cycling, stay aboard the ship!
Between Cologne and Mainz, Cologne Cathedral and Imperial Cathedral you will find a stunning landscape ideal for bike tours. The area offers ancient cultural landscapes, which date back further than Roman times and the Rhine Gorge, which is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. It is also well known as a wine region for excellent wines and offers outstanding cycle paths, which accompany the Rhine. This Boat & bike tour on the river Rhine is also ideal for less experienced cyclists. The tour starts in Cologne.
Here you can find details about your boat, the MS Olympia.
Day 1 Arrival in Cologne
Embarkation starts at 4 p.m., afterwards you can spend the evening in the historic city centre.
Day 2 Cologne - Bonn, approx. 37 km / 23 mi
You can either visit Cologne Cathedral, or hop on your bike to Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, which offers a number of interesting buildings and museums.
Day 3 Bonn - Andernach, approx. 45 km / 28 mi
Slowly the Eifel and Westerwald mountain ranges move closer to the Rhine. Bad Breisig profits from sulphur springs, which admittedly can sometimes be a little smelly, while Andernach offers a clear cold-water geyser.
Day 4 Andernach - Koblenz, approx. 25 km / 15 mi
The baroque castle Engers, which was once inhabited by the Bishops of Trier, is particularly worth seeing. You will have a splendid view of Koblenz from the fortress Ehrenbreitstein.
Day 5 Koblenz - St. Goar, approx. 38 km / 23 mi
Steep vineyards and countless hill castles such as Castle Katz and Castle Maus characterise the vistas on your tour through the romantic Middle Rhine Valley.
Day 6 St. Goar - Rüdesheim, approx. 32 km / 20 mi
Unlike many unlucky shipmen before you, you will safely pass the famous Loreley cliffs, which have been the stuff of legends for centuries. In Rüdesheim you will have great fun on a trip with the cabin cable car.
Day 7 Rüdesheim - Mainz, approx. 32 km / 20 mi
Up until now the vineyards mainly grew Riesling grapes, but now you can also find excellent Pinor Noir vines. In Mainz you should not miss the Kaiserdom (Imperial Cathedral).
